Tee Off for The Dream Factory

Moss Electrical was joined by a host of the UK’s most prestigious electrical contractors and manufacturers at The London Club on Friday 13th July for our annual Charity Golf Day.

This year Moss dedicated the day in honour of Avril Mills and her charity The Dream Factory. The Dream Factory is a registered Charity set up to grant wishes and dreams to children and young people from the ages of 3 to 25 years with life limiting, life-threatening conditions or severe disabilities. To view some of the amazing work undertaken by the charity please visit www.yourdreamfactory.org

A team from Moss Electrical, led by Managing Director Robert Moss hosted the annual Moss Golf Day, at the London Golf Club in Kent, and successfully raised our target of £20,000 for our chosen charity.

Following the day of golf, guests were treated to an evening of delicious food and wine with the day concluding with an awards presentation, a live charity auction and speeches hosted by a special guest, former Premier League manager Harry Redknapp. Winners on the day were presented with an array of golf prizes with the overall winner taking home an impressive 5-night holiday to Belek, Turkey.

The Dream Factory

The Dream Factory has been set up to brighten the lives and encourage hope for children and young adults aged 3-25 years, who have either life limiting or life-threatening conditions, or who suffer from severe disabilities. We do this by making their wishes come true!

Any dream is possible and when The Dream Factory says it will take on the challenge of making a wish come true then we will do everything in our power to make it happen in the shortest possible time.

The Dream Factory has been created by Avril Mills, former fundraiser, and events manager at Haven House Children's Hospice.

We have been fortunate in gaining the support of a number of well-known people who have agreed to become patrons of The Dream Factory. These patrons will be attending as many of our Events as they can and helping to raise the profile of The Dream Factory. At the beginning of January 2008, The Dream Factory was itself a dream, Avril knew what she wanted to do and was prepared to work hard to make it happen.

MK Electric and Philips Team up to Produce Energy-Efficient Dimmable LED Lighting

Market leaders MK Electric and Philips have joined forces to offer a practical solution to overcome the industry’s long-standing issues in producing reliable LED lighting offerings that operate effectively with dimmable switches.

MK’s Design Service has produced a specialist dimmer that works with the Philips MASTER LED product range, specifically 7W MASTER LEDspot GU10 MV, 7W MASTER LEDspot GU10 MV DimTone, 12W MASTER LEDbulb and 8W MASTER LEDbulb DimTone.

The award winning LED lamps can be paired with dimmers from two of MK Electric’s most popular ranges, Logic Plus – the classic, white plastic design – and Edge – the stylish, functional, slim profile design. Both ranges are rated 8W-48W to operate effectively with the MASTER LED lamps.

According to McKinsey & Company LED lighting is forecast to be the dominant technology in domestic and commercial lighting by 20151. The main reason being the significant energy savings – up to 80% compared with incandescent and halogen lamps when using Philips’ MASTER LED range. The long lifetime of up to 45,000 burning hours, compared to 10-15,000 of traditional halogen lamps also results in significantly lower maintenance costs.

“The collaboration between Philips and MK Electric has resulted in a market-leading product that fills an important gap in the industry,” according to Jason Ng, Marketing Communications Specialist for MK Electric.

“It’s one of the first times that a lighting manufacturer and a wiring accessories manufacturer have married their expertise to overcome an industry issue like this one. As a result of this collaboration contractors and designers clearly know which dimmers can reliably dim which ranges of LED lighting – it’s a sought-after answer.”

MK LED Lighting with Dimmable Switches

Duncan Chamberlain, Director of Trade, Philips UK comments: “The sales of MASTER LED lamps to date have been phenomenal and are used in a variety of different applications.
Ensuring that all our customers have the best user experience possible is really important to us so taking the leadership to offer clear guidance on dimming compatibilities was an obvious step.“ Philips LED spot ranges have a 40,000 hour lifetime while the bulb ranges have a 25,000 hour lifetime. The DimTone ranges in the 8W MASTER LEDbulb and 7W MASTER LEDspot change colour when dimmed from true warm white to a warmer red tone, making it very easy for users to change the ambience of a room to suit their moods – simply by dimming.

All of Philips’ LED lights are environmentally friendly with no mercury included and all materials fulfil European directive 2002/95/EC.

The LED Dimmers from MK Electric are just the first two in a wider range of LED Dimmers that are due to be launched at the end of the year.

MK Electric Launches a New Range of Energy-Saving BattenFit Sensors

MK Electric, the UK’s leading manufacturer of wiring devices and accessories, is launching  a cost effective BattenFit Sensor range that can deliver energy savings of up to 80 percent1.

With advanced PIR detection technology to monitor occupancy of the area, the BattenFit range of devices use presence detection to automatically switch the light on when someone enters an area, for example a corridor, and switch it off again when the area is vacated. These sensors provide a solution for customers requiring a simple and cost effective energy-saving solution for use in warehouses, industrial units, factories, utility areas and any space where there is a possibility of lights being inadvertently left on for extended periods when not required.

More sophisticated variants provide the same reliable presence detection and additionally monitor levels of natural light to further eliminate unnecessary use of energy. DSI and DALI-compatible detectors, at the top end of the range, are capable of maintaining constant light levels by adjusting output in relation to available natural light. The range is ideal for use in existing installations of batten-style luminaires.

Jason Ng, marketing communications specialist for MK Electric, said: “BattenFit is a good solution for those ‘forgotten’ energy stealers such as storage rooms and utility areas – in fact, anywhere where lights can be left on unnecessarily for long periods.

“These products are ideal for customers requiring a simple energy-saving solution that is easy to assemble in existing installations.”

The BattenFit Sensor is manufactured to ISO 9002 certification with each product undergoing 100 percent electrical and visual testing to ensure reliability and safety.

The product range comes with a two-year guarantee and will be available in the UK from July 2011.
